Types of Car Oils

Premium Oil
This is the conventional oil that is available in different levels of viscosity. This type of oil is largely used in light-duty vehicles, and needs to be changed/replaced once in every 4 months, or at least twice a year. It is highly recommended that the oil is changed as soon as the oil-change indicator in the car lights up.

Synthetic Oil
This type of oil is specially formulated for sophisticated engines, such as those found in Mercedes-Benz. They promise a high degree of performance in aspects such as protection against deposits and viscosity index. They are considerably expensive than the conventional oils but are completely worth the money spent on them as they perform well across a wide range of temperatures.

Synthetic Blend Oil
As the name suggests, synthetic blend oil consists of a dash of synthetic mixed with the conventional oil. This type of oil is formulated with the aim to offer protection to vehicles enduring heavy loads and/or working in high temperatures, especially SUVs. Given that the synthetic blend oil doesn’t evaporate as easily, they reduce the loss of oil and increase fuel efficiency. Yet another benefit of this is that it costs much less than fully synthetic.

Deal With Broken Car

1. Assess the damage

That has been done to your car: Before making an effort of selling your broken vehicle, assess the damage that has been done to your car by wear and tear or an accident. It is essential to know the worth or the car before quoting a value for sale. Get an inspection of the car done by a mechanic to get a fair idea of the value and functionality of the car. Make sure you know if the important systems of the car are in working conditions so that you can go about the marketing of the vehicle.

2. Repair the vehicle:

If your car is too dysfunctional to be sold, get it repaired. You can get the damaged parts of the vehicles repaired before selling the car. However, there is not much profit that you can make out of it. The value that will be added to your vehicle will most probably equal to the cost of repairing. Make sure you have enough time and efforts to invest in repairing the car. Before you make a deal with potential buyers, inform them about the prior status of the car.

3. Sell the car as it is to a Salvage lot:

Sometimes cars are so severely damaged that they are considered to be irreparable. In this case, you can sell the car to a salvage lot. They tow your car away and some operational spare parts of the car can be used for resale. If there is nothing that can be used for the purpose of reselling, the metal is recycled. You can hardly expect a good pay from them but it’s better than having a wreck uselessly sitting in your garage.

4. Sell parts of the car:

If you want to make a little money out of your broken car, you can personally sell the usable parts of your vehicle. Contact the salvage yards to get an information about the amount of money that you can make through selling parts of your car or sell them yourself if you think you can make more money by personally selling them. You can throw an advertisement in some newspapers or upload some advertisement on websites like eBay to attract potential buyers.

Performance Car Tuning

The concept of Car Tuning: In simple words, car tuning may be explained as the method of editing the functionality of engine control unit installed inside your car. Now days going through the use of the computer, mechanism of the car is controlled by the software that is installed in the engine control unit of the car. This engine control unit or ECU is linked with the engine and other components through sensors. Car tuning refers to altering the program of the software installed in the ECU. Doing this results in the improved performance of the car and it not only starts delivering the improved fuel efficiency but also starts generating more power as compared to earlier.

Here it would be interesting to know that the problem of decline in the performance of vehicles is not only faced by the owners of small cars but also the owners of luxurious cars like Aston Martin, Jaguar, BMW, etc. Interestingly going through the concern of all types of car owners nowadays there are various technicians that expertise in the job of offering the service of performance car tuning to the car owners across the world. The worth mention feature of the services offered by these technicians is that apart from car tuning they also offer various additional services that are helpful in enhancing the performance of any car. Some of these methods are referred below:

  1. Upgrading the exhaust system: Being a car owner you must be aware of the functioning of an exhaust system that throws out the harmful gases taking inside the engine from the combination of air and fuel from the car. Surprisingly, as the car gets older there is also decline in its performance moreover with passing time the exhaust pipes also get older. Therefore, after the ECU of a car is re-tuned there is an increase in its power generation efficiency and the pressure of gases developing inside the engine. In such scenario, it becomes imperative for the car owner to get the exhaust system upgraded in accordance with tuned ECU. Doing this is helpful in improving the performance of the car.
  2. Upgrading the brakes: The enhancement in power generation efficiency also impacts the acceleration performance of the car and therefore to comply with that efficiency upgrading the braking system becomes necessary for retaining the proper control over the vehicle. In absence of this, there are chances that your car might smash to other cars.
  3. Upgrading the air filter: As the exhaust system throws the harmful gases out from the car, similarly the air filters support the smooth entrance of clean air in the engine. As the time passes the dust and other particles start blocking the holes of the filter, which adversely affects the performance of a vehicle. To combat this problem replacing the existing air filter with the new filters is helpful in enjoying the enhanced performance of your vehicle to a huge extent.

Car Painting Tips

  • Make sure that you have all your tools on hand. This includes sand paper, electric sandpaper, masking tape, newspapers, air compressors and spray guns. Also consider weather conditions such as sunshine, wind and rain.
  • Make sure that you have the correct chemicals for the paint such as thinners, primer, undercoat and top coat. All these are necessary to prolong the life of the paint job.
  • Remove all the dust in your work area to prevent particles landing on the wet paint. Particles will destroy the smooth finish. You also need to clean the car to remove all grease and road contaminants.
  • Never forget to wear a face mask, goggles and gloves to avoid getting the chemicals on your skin. These items will also protect you from the particles that come off when you sand current enamel off the car.
  • Sand the car in circular motions for a uniform surface. The more uniform the better the end result. Once you have finished with sanding the chassis, apply thinners onto a cloth and wipe the surface. Thinners will get the remaining paint off.
  • Priming the surface provides a good base coat to prolong the life of the paint job. It also helps to set the chemicals for an even finish. If you don’t want a specific section of the car to be painted, cover those areas with masking tape or newspaper.
  • Apply thin layers of primer and paint so that clumps and drops don’t form. Thinner coats will set quicker and allow you to add another coat on top without unsightly formations.
  • Follow all the rations mentioned on the instructions of the paint packages. There might be a different amount of chemicals that need to be mixed with the right amount of thinners.

Think how much effort you should put to completely clean your car, if you are doing it all yourself. Firstly, you should clean all your seats, vacuum the fitted mats, shampoo wash the carpets, clean the mirror and glasses, water wash the exteriors, etc. and waste the whole day. Still you won’t get the best results. Of course, you can do something creative and more productive rather than wasting your precious time cleaning your car that is already messed up.

Cost To Wrap My Car

Car Model:

As mentioned above, all cars are different. Take, for instance, a Volkswagen Golf. Others may see just a standard hatchback, but as professional car wrappers, we have to look beyond the body type. Firstly, we have to break down the trim level. Does the car have a body kit? Are there any distinct changes in the styling? Is there a sunroof? What sort of bumpers does it have? Are the headlights different? Are there any prior scratches, dents or marks on the car? These are just some of the questions we must be able to answer, which is why we never are able to give out proper quotes, unless we see the vehicle in person. Sometimes, we can give quotes on the spot as some vehicles don’t differ, but this is a rare case.

Vinyl Type:

This, thankfully for me, is much easier to breakdown for us. A good car wrapping company, such as ourselves, should have a database complete with all our available material. Material can alter the price quite a bit. Depending on the finish, such as matte black, gloss blue, metallic red, satin yellow, chrome orange etc… all of which can affect the pricing. The material brand also can affect the pricing. Depending on where you go, some workshops may use cheap, inferior brands of vinyl. Fortunately, companies that have a high degree of care only use the best, with vinyl coming exclusively from 3M and/or Avery Dennison, both of whom are some of the biggest vinyl and adhesive product suppliers in the world. It’s important to ensure that wherever you get your car wrapped, the workshop uses brands such as 3M, Avery Dennison, Oracal and/or Arlon. These are the top shelf brands that ensure your wrap not only looks good, but can look good over a long period of time

Body Panel:

This may be an odd consideration, but sometimes, car wrapping business may get customers who just want specific parts of their vehicles to be wrapped. Parts such as the roof, door handles and bonnet are the most popular option that is requested. There are also requests for stickers and/or decals to be put on, mainly stripes that run down the body panel, or side skirts. This, combined with the different custom stickers we can design, often go into the final decision making part of the costs of car vinyl.

Change Flat Tire by Yourself

1. Put your vehicle on a flat surface- Make sure your vehicle is on a flat surface, or lifting the car may result in damage. Turn on the hazard lights.

2. Remove the hubcap and loosen the lug nuts- First remove the hubcaps, if any, and loosen all the lug nuts on the tire, but do not remove them. It is best to use an anti-slip lug wrench, as it will give a firm grip to loosen the nuts.

3. Place the jack underneath your car- Using the owner’s manual, place the jack in the proper location so that it won’t end up in damaging you or the vehicle.

4. Jack up- Lift the vehicle by cranking the handle of the jack. Lift the vehicle until you can easily remove the tire.

5. Remove the nuts- Now remove the loosened nuts and store them safely. Do not lose them, as you need them to attach the spare tire.

6. Remove the flat tire- Hold the tire and pull it towards you by lifting it slightly. Tires may weigh from 20 to 30 pounds or more depending on the vehicle, so be careful while lifting it.

7. Move your spare- Mount the spare on the hub, place the nuts, and tighten them just with your hands – not using wrench.

8. Lower the jack- Lower the car until it is in contact with the ground, and remove the jack.

9. Tighten the lug nuts- Now tighten the lug nuts that you previously tightened with your hands. First tighten one nut, then the nut most opposite it. Repeat this pattern, always moving to tighten the next most opposite nut. Once all the nuts are tightened to some extent, tighten them more securely one-by-one.

10. Repair the flat (or replace it) as soon as possible- You may not know when you will need a spare tire again.

Types of Turbos

The exhaust gas that a turbocharger uses to operate is energy that is lost in a normally aspirated automobile engine. In cars, there are various types of turbochargers, and each has its own characteristics, drawbacks, and benefits.

  • Single-Turbo The single turbocharger offers excellent variability and is a cost-effective method of increasing power in a car engine. It is relatively easy to install, and the addition of a single turbocharger produces the equivalent power as that of a larger and heavier normally aspirated engine, thus increasing performance. However, the turbo response by the engine may not be as quick as with other turbo configurations.
  • Twin-Turbo Similar to single turbos there are several options when considering a twin turbo. A single turbocharger can be added to each cylinder bank regardless of whether the engine is a V6 or V8. For parallel twin turbos on “V” shaped engines, the benefits, as well as the drawbacks, are the same as with the single turbo. They can be placed sequentially or in other configurations that enhance the engine’s torque and power. Cost and complexity can be a disadvantage as it is doubling the number of turbo components required.

Replace a Power Window Regulator and Motor Assembly

The list of tools recommended to replace a power window regulator are as follows: Drilling tool and bits, painters tape, silicone spray, hex key magnetic, wrench, screwdriver, razor knife, white lithium grease, zip tie, magnet, plastic pry tool, socket wrench and sockets, gloves, and safety glasses.

We will review some general information before we get started on the installation directions. The first thing you will want to do is to ensure your working with a clean and dust free area. To begin, use silicone spray to clean the window run channels before installation. You’ll want to use a plastic pry tool rather than a screwdriver to remove the door panel to prevent damage. To avoid damage surface of residue, use painters tape to affix the window. Last, use a magnetic wrench and screwdriver to loosen or tighten the screws, nuts, and bolts.

There are essentially eight steps to replace a window regulator and motor assembly:

  1. Remove door trim
  2. Disconnect wiring
  3. Release connecting hardware
  4. Disconnect harness plug
  5. Install new window regulator
  6. Reconnect power supply
  7. Attach the window glass
  8. Test the window

Let’s go ahead and get started on the fitting. First, remove the interior door trim panel. Be sure to retain the hardware. Gently disconnect the wiring from the components inside the door. If a protective covering exists, remove it by hand when possible. Next, raise or lower the window glass to expose the hardware that connects the window regulator to the window glass. Then, release the connecting hardware, slide the glass up and affix the window in place. Next, disconnect the harness plug for the motor and release the screws to remove the window regulator assembly. Then, install the new window regulator assembly and secure the screws. Reconnect the power supply, raise or lower the window glass to expose the hardware. Attach the window glass in place with the hardware. And lastly, run the window up and down to verify the correct range of movement and operation.

Deal With Overheating Car Engine

PULL OVER

When a car has just overheated, attempting to drive it further can risk harming the engine. You should never drive an overheating car because the engine (and other important inner components) can sustain irrevocable damages. It can also be dangerous to you and anyone in or around the vehicle. For instance, head gaskets can blow, engine parts can melt, and smoke can accumulate in large masses.

So the first thing to do when you notice that your car is over-heating, is pull over to a safe part of the road. It is recommended to try to pull into a neighborhood or parking lot if there is one there at the moment; otherwise, simply find a flat surface on the side of the road.

ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL

Once you have pulled over and turned the engine off, be sure to turn on your hazards to alert people of your position. This is especially important at night. Keep all car lights on in the evening if you are ever pulled over on the edge of a street. Many people make the mistake of opening their hoods right away and touching the radiator cap; this is a huge mistake! The car engine and radiator will be very hot and can cause second and third degree burns. Always allow your vehicle to cool off for at least fifteen minutes, depending on the amount of time spent driven prior to the break down. This way you can protect yourself from accidents and injury.

CHECK FOR FLUID LEAKS

When the vehicle has completely cooled, check around and underneath it for any signs of leaking. This could indicate a wide variety of issues, from a cracked radiator to a faulty radiator hose. If there is no sign of leakage, take a look at the oil. Remove the dipstick and concentrate on the color. If it is dark brown and sludgy-looking, this means the liquid coolant might be seeping into the engine. This can result from a blown head gasket or cracked engine block. Even if the oil looks normal, these damages may still be the underlying problem.

CONTACT A MECHANIC

The best thing to do in a situation like this is call a mechanic shop once you have the car pulled over. They are the professionals that can accurately diagnose the issue behind your overheating vehicle. When antifreeze and coolant aren’t the answer, trust a licensed auto repair technician to figure it out for you. Use a directory to contact a towing service that can transport your vehicle directly to the auto repair shop, and give you a ride there too, all in the same trip.
