Types of Turbos

The exhaust gas that a turbocharger uses to operate is energy that is lost in a normally aspirated automobile engine. In cars, there are various types of turbochargers, and each has its own characteristics, drawbacks, and benefits.

  • Single-Turbo The single turbocharger offers excellent variability and is a cost-effective method of increasing power in a car engine. It is relatively easy to install, and the addition of a single turbocharger produces the equivalent power as that of a larger and heavier normally aspirated engine, thus increasing performance. However, the turbo response by the engine may not be as quick as with other turbo configurations.
  • Twin-Turbo Similar to single turbos there are several options when considering a twin turbo. A single turbocharger can be added to each cylinder bank regardless of whether the engine is a V6 or V8. For parallel twin turbos on “V” shaped engines, the benefits, as well as the drawbacks, are the same as with the single turbo. They can be placed sequentially or in other configurations that enhance the engine’s torque and power. Cost and complexity can be a disadvantage as it is doubling the number of turbo components required.

Shock Absorbers

These are basically little oil pumps that have a piston inside. The piston will push the oil or hydraulics through tiny holes and valves. The valves and holes are inside the piston that assists with control of the resistance and movement. Because only a small amount of oil is let through the tiny holes or orifices, the piston will get slowed down which will also decelerate spring and suspension movements.

There are also different types of shock absorbers that were manufactured for the different cars. The different types include Conventional Telescopic, Strut Type and Spring Seat shock absorbers.

Conventional Telescopic – these are the standard devices that are so cheap that a mechanic would rather replace than repair. They can be used for front and rear suspension.

Strut Type – these were made specifically for heavier loads. Part of the system is equipped with a strut to withstand the heavier loads on bigger vehicles. Certain parts of this model can be repaired whilst others need to be completely replaced.

Spring Seat – these versions are the two previous shock absorbers almost combined into one. The Spring Seat is the suspension unit and damping unit

A tire blowout is a special kind of flat tire. The side wall has ruptured, leaving a huge tear in your tire that cannot be repaired. While many believe that a blown-out tire is caused in part by over inflation, the true culprit is actually the opposite: tires that are underinflated. It’s not the rubber and steel that makes a tire able to carry the weight of a car and its passengers. It is the air. Without enough air, the components inside the tires flex and heat until it all snaps and a blowout occurs. If the car is carrying a heavy load, then the likelihood of a blowout is compounded. Lead acid car batteries are energy storing devices made up of lead and lead dioxide plates. These plates are submerged into an electrolyte solution. The percentage of water is 65% and sulphuric acid contributes 35% to this solution. When the battery is used to start the car, it gets discharged. The sulphuric acid in the electrolyte solution gets depleted leaving a higher proportion of water. The sulfate is returned to the acid during the charging process. The battery provides high current required by the starter motor to crank the engine of the car. Once the engine is started, the battery is again recharged by the engine driven charging system. In this process, the alternator takes necessary energy from the rotation of engine through a belt to charge up the battery. When the engine is running, the alternator generates electricity for the electrical equipment of the car.

When the car is exposed to direct sunlight in summers for longer periods of time, it accelerates the process of corrosion and evaporates the electrolyte. This reduces the life of a battery making it weaker. So, avoid getting your car heated by sunlight by parking in a suitable shade.
